Sailing and rowing but also water ski and, until 1976, when it was abandoned for environmental reasons, a speed boating base. Water sports are connected the life of the lake itself. Here man has always built boats and challenged wind and water, even before challenging race competitors. The most widespread sport today is sailing. In the last 40 years five sail clubs have been founded. The most ancient is the Associazione Nautica Sebina, which goes back to 1951, with its harbour at Montecolo, in Sulzano. It is a celebrated sail school which has trained European champions who have participated in the Olympic games. In Lovere there are also the ANS Alto Lago di Lovere and the Sail Club. In addition there are the Sail Club Sarnico and the Sail Club ?La Fenice? in Pilzone. To qualified people, sail clubs hire boats or give sail lessons for technique improvement.
Some areas of the lake, thanks to a high wind blowing from the side valleys, have become a favourite place for those who enjoy wind surfing. The most favourable spot is between Vallo and Toline. It can be reached running along the old main road 510.
The many ship yards are able to meet al the needs of those who go by lake. The ship yards of Montisola are specialised in wood boats, built in accordance with an old tradition.
In Sarnico the ship yards are well known for the beautiful yachts. |
